Going back home to Woodcroft Neighbourhood Centre
Our venue for 20 years (1995-2015) has now been rebuilt and ready to open its doors.
It’s been a long 4.5 years in the building process.

Woodcroft Neighbourhood Centre re opens Thursday 1stAugust
65 Woodcroft Drive Woodcroft.
This will replace our so called “temporary venue” Plumpton Neighbourhood Centre.  We hope all our students will follow us back to our old “new” premises.

August is our Birthday month – 28 years!
So please come along to the Opening Night at Woodcroft. You may register and buy your lesson passes/courses for the upcoming term and cash in the Birthday Spring
Savings. There will be a class at 6.45pm with an opening social celebration from 7.30pm to 8.45pm.  Check out the beautiful venue and the surrounding lake and outdoor area.
Nearest railway station Doonside or Blacktown and you will need the Woodcroft bus. Ample car park and only minutes to Woodcroft Plaza.

Winter Courses
New month gives you the opportunity to invite your friends to start in our beginners
classes.  If you have been dancing in beginners over the last 3 months and would like to try
Intermediate this is the opportune time to move up and give it a go.  Please visit our Lessons Page for full schedule for either Sydney or Central Coast.

The anticipation is killing me ….5 years in the making and only weeks to go!
This event has now been themed “Gangster”.  You may choose Gangsters from any period 1920s, 1930s, 1940s etc.

Please note this is an annual Charity Event and we would really appreciate if you can dig deep and donate non-perishable food, clothing, toys, toiletries etc. Students may bring their donations along to class and guests welcome to bring them on the night.  There will be boxes marked Coast Shelter to place your items.
Cash donations are accepted but must be placed in a sealed envelope with your name and address for receipting purposes.

If you haven’t bought tickets yet please get in quick to avoid disappointment. Each year we have had to turn people back once sold out. There are only just under 20 tickets left.  Great venue in the auditorium at Mingara Rec Club. Plenty of parking, bistros, bars and cafes.  Great dance floor!

Don’t forget the big one on Friday night Ezra Lee and his band from Melbourne with
headline Chromefest with the popular Dj Gav Bean.

Spring Fever
We have the Swing Katz roaming the East Coast of Australia. June in Townsville August in Cairns and September on the Central Coast. This will be their first workshop in 3 years on the Central Coast. Please show your interest and support by return email if you would like to be part of the workshop.  The workshop will run Saturday 14 September afternoon
before the social 2-5pm.  Schedule and Fees to come.

As part of the Gosford Regional Show this year Team Suede will be appearing at the Autofest on Sunday 5 May.  Some of our dancers will be performing for the first time. Come along and support the troupe and even join in and dance.  Our times 11am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

May is Frankie Month
Swing Classes Central Coast, Mayfield and Plumpton will commemorate Frankie this month with Frankie Favourites.  Fun Vintage Lindy Hop Classics.

Gosford Venue is having the floor replaced and in the interim the classes will be held at
Ettalong venue on Wednesday nights until 15 May.  We will be back at Gosford on 22 May.  The Monday night classes at Ettalong are still being held as normal with RocknRoll at 6.45pm and Cha Cha continues at 7.45pm

The last social was a huge success earlier this year and we encourage all students to come along.  Great way to start social dancing and improve your skills in a wonderful friendly
environment and great venue.

Medals Day East Gosford Hall
NSW RocknRoll Association will be holding medals day for students wishing to do their Bronze and Silver Medals in RocknRoll or Swing.
Spectactors welcome to come and watch and see what it’s all about if you are thinking of signing up for the next one in November.
The Medals will be held at East Gosford Hall on Saturday 11 May 12noon

We have so many students asking what is the difference between Swing/Lindy Hop and RocknRoll/Rockabilly dance styles.  It all comes down to the music and the steps and also geographically where you are in the world.  Jive, Jitterbug, East Coast Swing, Boogie
Woogie are all form of RocknRoll. Each have their own style.  Lindy Hop is the grandfather of them all. So don’t be afraid of the label of the dance style ….just dance to the music.

It doesn’t matter whether you Swing or RocknRoll.  So many students missed out on our Swing Ball because they told me they don’t Swing Dance.  RocknRoll is East Coast Swing.  Its grandfather dance is Lindy Hop.  You are already swing dancing.

Swing Ball Review
Our first Swing Ball was such a success with the most positive feedback .  It was a great
relaxed intimate affair with an awesome band in The Aston Martinis and great venue.  It’s a rarity when a club asks you back.  So keep you eyes peeled for another intimate social coming in September.

Zumba at Plumpton
Come along Thursdays Nights and join Zumba Gold at our Plumpton venue 5.30-6.30pm.
Suitable for active adults and seniors who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower intensity.
How does it work? Amelia will introduce easy to follow Zumba Choreography that focuses on balance, range ofmotion and co-ordination to great latin, rocknroll and pop rhythms.
Don’t be shy! Bring bottled water and a hand towel.  Casual gym gear.

New Venue Casula Community Centre Monday 4 March
We are happy to announce the new venue Casula Community Centre will start this coming Monday 4 March with Amelia Kalafatis.  Amelia has been on the scene for 20 years and I have had the pleasure or working close with Amelia during those years.  Fully qualified in Swing, Rockabilly and Rocknroll as well as an Event Organiser and Zumba Instructor we look forward to welcoming Amelia on our team at Casula and Plumpton.

SWING KATZ FUNDRAISER
ROCK THAT SWING FESTIVAL is now live and the Swing Katz Junior team are hitting the workshops daily as I write this.  Once again on behalf of the parents and the Dance School we are so grateful for each and everyone that contributed to the fundraiser to get these kids to Munich.  This experience will be surely a major milestone in their dancing career.

New Gigs for Central Coast……Looking for something different
I’m always on the lookout for new venues, new bands, something different.  February saw quite a few gigs and some new events on the Central Coast which was exciting.  Unfortunately not all were well supported.  Please don’t forget to give of your time and if necessary pay the entry fee to these fabulous events so we can have more on the Coast.

Galleria– has monthly Swing, Rockabilly and RocknRoll events free
Central Coast Leagues Club– the last Monday of the month there is Swing n Jazz downstairs at the club $10 fee
St Johns Heritage Churchsocial was a huge success.  Our next date is Satuday 11 May.

Medals Date
First medal Day of the year will be held on Sat 11 May at East Gosford Progressive Hall between 1pm-3pm. We welcome spectactors to cheer along the students.

We encourage all students to join the Medals Day.  They are designed to build
self -confidence and develop technique and provide a structured approach to measure each individuals progress.  The Medal Series start from Bronze to Gold Star.

Please email me for your forms and syllabus. For more details speak to your class teacher at any of our venues.
Fees are payable by 21 April.

All the bands have been locked in for Chromefest and I am happy to report that both major events will be held at Club Mingara Auditorium downstairs.

What’s New
1.We have a new venue at Ettalong 50s Leisure Centre Ettalong Beach starting Mon 4
February for those down in the Peninsula area.

2.Fingers crossed we will have a New Venue in the Liverpool region starting in March.

3.We have added a new event this year to replace the Prom.  We are going to Swing like it’s the 40s with our SWING BALL event . More details to follow.

4.BSS is an Active kids Provider – parents redeem your $100 free lessons.  We are also
waiting to see if we are eligible for the  Creative Kids Provider which means another $100 free lessons if approved.

5.And for the biggest announcement…..We are starting the year with the END in mind.
What does this mean?? We are going to party like its 2020 on New Years Eve.

New home for WSDC
This year WSDC championships will be held Sat 10 August at Greyhound Social Club in
Yagoona.  Parramatta RSL will be starting renovations in August and the facility will be unavailable.

New Staff Members
Look out for a couple of new faces who will be joining our team this year.
Rookie – Mattias Cerdival Norton – Member of the Swing Katz.  Mattias started at Blue Suede Shoes at our Gosford Location and will be part of our teaching team at our Ettalong venue this year.
Master – Amelia Kalafatis – no stranger to Blue Suede Shoes.  Some of you had the pleasure of being taught by Amelia at our Plumpton location. Amelia will be teaching in the
Liverpool region and popping in at Plumpton now and then.

Rock That Swing Festival
We would like to express our gratitude to all those who have supported and donated to the Go Fund Me page to assist in getting the teens over to Munich for the Rock That Swing
Festival.  Donations are still dribbling in and we are happy to announce we have reached the $10,000 mark which has helped each of them with the airfares and workshops/lessons.
Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness.  They are truly overwhelmed.  We will be posting their journey on Facebook for you to follow.

New Gigs for Central Coast
Sun 17 February-Galleria – will have monthly Swing, Rockabilly and RocknRoll events.  January saw their first swing event.  This  will be their first Rockabilly event.
Sat 16 February – Sun 17 February-Elvis Festival – The annual Elvis Festival will be held at Davistown RSL.
Mon 25 February Con Artist Big Band Central Coast Leagues Club Door charge
Sat 30 March-Swing on in – The Art House at Wyong will have Swing on In performing .   Matinee and Evening session.  If you like Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, the Rat Pack you will love these guys.

Let the Silly Season Begin!!
Last Friday Night we started the silly season with our Wacky World of Sports theme
Christmas Party and it was wonderful to see so many students especially our newbies!

This is our final News Update for 2018 and we just want to say A VERY BIG THANK YOU to all our friends that follow us and/or come to class.  It was a HUGE YEAR for us and we are always looking at different ways to change things up and keep evolving to keep you
motivated and inspired!

MERRY CHRISTMAS and a successful and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Gosford change of venue this Wednesday will be Ettalong 50+ Leisure Learning Centre this week.  The address is Corner Broken Bay Road & Karingi Street Ettalong Beach Opposite Drop Your Pants Laundromat.  Dress Code Red or Green or both.  You may bring a plate of goodies along but please take your rubbish and left overs with you.

Swing Katz Fundraiser 
Get our kids to Munich Rock That Swing Festival  Fundraiser has been overwhelmingly
supported.  We would love to thank everyone who has donated and supported this fundraiser.  Your generosity is more than appreciated.  We would also like to thank everyone who has contacted us and donated gifts, cash, bought tickets for our Christmas Raffle and donated through GoFundMe.  We are still receiving more and more fundraising ideas from our wonderful students and friends and I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart.
The money will be divided amongst the kids for their airfares. The parents have a big job in raising balance of funds for the 5 day workshops, accommodation, food and refreshments.
We are extremely happy to announce a sum of $950 was raised through the Christmas Raffle. Thank you so much.

What’s New for 2019
We can reveal our new Central Coast Venue on Monday Nights will be Ettalong 50+ Leisure Learning Centre (the former Senior Citizens Hall).  This venue is in a great location and great addition to Blue Suede Shoes Dance School. It is situated in the beachside village vibe area of Ettalong Beach. Classes will commence here on Monday 4 February.  There is off street parking available as well as a car park in the Hall grounds.  Great dance floor which was refurbished 6 years ago.

Swing Kids
Congratulations to our Swing Kids (Central Coast) first performance at Chromefest this year.
Thank you to the parents for all your efforts in preparing the kids week in and week out and getting them to class.

Chromefest
Chromefest is over for another year and what an event it was this year!
Blue Suede Shoes, Swing Kids, Swing Katz and One of a kind were all part of Chromefest this year.  It is our 9th year at Chromefest and we celebrated their 10 year Anniversary.
Thank you to the team who were part of Sydney Weekender gig and to the team who helped at the Stall and the events Friday and Saturday.  We can’t do it without you.

Halloween
What a great night and great dress up at this year’s Halloween Party at Gosford.
Congratulations to all our winners for best dressed.
Thank you also for bringing a plate and interacting with our steal and snowball games.
It truly was a FANTASTIC night!

Private Lessons during the Christmas Break
During our break I will be available for private lessons.  Please note private lessons must be paid in advance to secure the hall hire booking.

New Venue Ettalong
We are excited to announce we will have a new venue in 2019 opening in Ettalong.

Lady Luck Festival
The first Festival for the year is Lady Luck in Katoomba.
Save the date Saturday 19 January
This is a one day and night event with cars, bands, stalls in the grounds of the grand Carrington Hotel in Katoomba.

Social Themes coming to some of our Venues
Taking inspiration from last years end of year socials on the Central Coast and Plumpton we are bringing them back for the last 3 months of the year.
September -Spring Carnival week commencing 10 September
October –Oztober – week commencing 15 October
November – Black & White Affair week commencing 12 November

Farmers Plight- Central Coast for our Farmers
Blue Suede Shoes Dance School would like to help the Farmers. We ask during the month of September to step it up and bring in a gold coin donation. Every cent helps.  So many families and businesses are effected it really is a run on effect.
Should you wish to support the fundraiser please drop a gold coin in the box provided.
The donations will be used to give families gift visa cards so they may buy food,
medication, personal hygiene products etc If you wish to donate food etc you may drop off at Mt Penang on Sat 22 September.  Check Facebook link here

Wacky World of Sports Christmas Party
The line up for the end of Christmas Year Party is Shane Magro Combo from Melbourne and The Sydney Swing Katz.  If you haven’t seen this band don’t miss out on this
opportunity. They have performed at Shepparton, Greazefest and recently Tasmania.

WANNA DANCE SCHOLARSHIP
It’s that tme of the year where we announce the Wanna Dance Scholarship which has been sponsored by Argyle Business Brokers. This year’s Scholarship has been awarded to Ashton Varlet from the Toukley Class.Congratulations!  Ashton begun in February this year. We love his attitude and enthusiasm and we have seen so much growth in such a short time. Well done Ashton.

Chromefest 26-28 October
Following from the success of last year’s events we present Chromefest 10th year Anniversary!  Don’t forget to book your tickets for Friday Back to the High School Hop with
The Lincolns & Class of 58.  There are 5 tables available (10 per table).

The Saturday Sockhop is a sell out! This event was sold out 5 months and we have
exhausted standing room. We also have a long waiting list.

 Medals Day
The NSW RocknRoll Association next medals afternoon will be held at Concord
Presbyterian Hall on Saturday 10 Nov at 2pm. Medalists are requested to send their Entries in by 25 October. All students are welcomed to join the Medals afternoon.
For beginners we recommend commencing at the Bronze Level in your chosen dance style.  RocknRoll, Rockabilly, Slow Swing, Lindy Hop, Boogie Woogie or Cha Cha. Private Lessons are recommended to prepare and cover all criterias.  For further details please email me here.

Please pick up the phone and give us a call, email or text if you are unable to attend class.
If you have booked a private lesson and cancel on the day of the lesson a cancellation fee of $33 is charged and is payable.
Unfortunately we need to pass on the overhead costs.

Winter Courses
Yes it’s that cold time of year but don’t get stuck indoors instead come out and dance with us!

Central Coast new courses will be commencing in August yet intermediate level may drop in any week of the month. Swing classes will also be back in August.

Sydney classes / Emu Plains Mon 30 July  and Concord Wed 1 August.

Kids classes will continue through school holidays to prepare for the NSW State Titles.

Classes & Timetables-June Break Central Coast
Please take note of the June Breaks coming up for all Central Coast Venues
Plumpton – No Class Thursday 7 June
Gallipoli – No Class Long Weekend Monday 11 June
Toukley – No Class Tuesday 12 June
Gosford – No Class Wednesday 13 June

Please note there will be a disruption to the Swing Classes at Gosford, Toukley &
Gallipoli during June and July. We do apologise for this in advance.  We will be back to normal program in August.
In the meantime Gallipoli Legions Club will have Social dancing after the Rockabilly class from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.  Its FREE come along and get some practice Swing and Rockabilly

TRIPLES WORKSHOP
This year the Triples Classes have been wildly popular amongst the dancers and we are bringing the next workshop to Plumpton Neighbourhood Centre Thursday 31 May at 7.30pm. The workshop is $20 per person.  Bookings essential.  Regular RocknRoll Class at 6.45pm and the Triples will replace the Swing Class.

NEW COURSE DATES CENTRAL COAST
Beginners Rockabilly at Gallipoli will begin on Monday 18 June 6.45pm
Beginners RocknRoll at Toukley will begin on Tuesday 19 June 6.45pm
Beginners Rocknroll at Gosford will begin on Wednesday 20 June 6.45pm
All intermediate are welcome to join Beginners for free.  We really do appreciate those who come along and make the newbies feel welcomed.

TEACHERS AWARD
CONGRATULATIONS to Ben Rowe from our Gallipoli venue on receiving the first Teachers Award for the year!  Ben has been dancing for 3 years and has become an asset to our Newcastle region.  He is very well liked by all the students and peers and has only been teaching 3 months and proved himself in such a short time to be well respected amongst the dancers.  Ben is one of our best ambassadors for the dance school and for dancing in general.  I am very proud to have him on board and know he will go from strength to strength.

Wild Wild West in July
Get excited for the most anticipated event each year and my favourite!
Tickets have gone on sale for our annual Christmas in July at Central Coast Leagues Club on Saturday 28 July in the Parkview Room. We have sold over 150 tickets to date. Thank you for your quick response. The last 50 tickets on Sale in June!
Our Christmas in July has been a charity event since its inception back in 2008 at Diggers at The Entrance.
Our donations keep pouring in and we are so overwhelmed with everyone’s generosity.  Thank you..
We are always looking for new bands and are excited to feature the Smokin Wingtips from Melbourne and our resident DJ Vinnie.  Don’t miss this event.

TRIPLES WORKSHOP
This Months Triples Classes have been wildly popular amongst the dancers and we are bringing a second workshop to Plumpton Neighbourhood Centre Thursday 3 May at 7.30pm. The workshop is $20 per person. Bookings essential.

GREAT NEWS!!! ACTIVE KIDS PROGRAM!!
So it’s no secret that Blue Suede Shoes was founded on children’s classes and we were very successful in the early years in training the young ones to compete and perform.
This year my goal and passion is to bring the kids back on to the dance floor and get them ACTIVE.
It’s all about inspiring our future champs!
So when the opportunity arose to be part of the ACTIVE KIDS I literally jumped in.
It’s a long process and after 4 weeks I can proudly say we have been approved as a Provider!!  There will be more details coming shortly. In the meantime please visit Service NSW online or your nearest office apply for your $100 voucher. Keeping our Kids Active!

Katz Coast Training Workshop 3.0
The childrens’ classes are slowly picking up in numbers on the central coast.
We really appreciate spreading the word and believe the best marketing is word of mouth.  Workshop No. 2 was a huge success and we are now taking registration for Workshop 3.0. There is only one more workshop before the WSDC NSW State Titles after this the next workshop will be early July.
Katz Coast Training Workshop 3.0 will be held at a different venue (Gosford 50+ Leisure Learning Centre where we teach every Wednesday).
It will be held on Sat 5 May 11am -1pm with a fee of $20 provided registrations meet our minimum 15.  Thank you to everyone who registered early.
There is still one week remaining to get your registration in. Failing poor numbers the workshop will be postponed to July. Please choose carefully there are NO REFUNDS.  Tickets are transferrable.

WE have 30 tickets remaining for the RocknRoll Prom.  If you haven’t booked please email me for tickets. Welcoming DJ Gav Bean back to Toukley RSL.  Featuring year Narelle Evans & the Jetbacks. Special performance by international visiting dancers Shane McIntyre & Keri McLean (US Champions) and the Sydney Swing Katz. Remember the Prom will be held on the Central Coast at Club Toukley RSL, Holmes Ave, Toukley.  The club has a bistro and coffee lounge area for all guests.

Spectator tickets have gone on sale and we now have 70 tickets left.
There are some tables available in the middle row and on the top row.
Sponsorship is still open. If you wish to sponsor an event please email me for Sponsorship forms.  Without Sponsors there would be no championship.
We are thankful to all our supporters and volunteers. There are 40 events to choose from with categories for minor/youth, adult and senior.

Medals Day Sunday 6 May
The Medal Examination will be held at East Gosford Hall on Sunday 6 May at 1.30pm.
Corner Henry Parry Drive & Wells Street East Gosford.
Nominations close this Thursday 26 April.  Forms must be completed with song choice and must be accompanied by the fee. Please email me for the nomination form if you haven’t as yet registered.
Medals Fee for members of the NSW RocknRoll Association is $35 per medal.
All other medallists $40.
Bronze to Gold Star in all styles RocknRoll, Rockabilly, Swing/Lindy Hop and Cha Cha.

Spectactors welcomed for a small fee of $5 payable at the door on the day.
There is a car park available and Fahrenheit Café next to the hall.

Our Christmas in July has been a charity event since its inception back in 2008 at Diggers at The Entrance.
We are happy to be supporting our charity Coast Shelter for the third consecutive year and extremely pleased and overwhelmed with the generosity of the students out west in the Emu Plains region who are leading the way with their donations.
I would like to thank those from the central coast who have also contributed.
The challenge is out!!…Let’s see which area digs the deepest.  Looking for Leaders who would like to take up the challenge and collection.
Performing for us are the Smokin Wingtips from Melbourne and our resident DJ Vinnie.  Don’t miss this event.  Grab your tickets early to avoid disappointment.  We have sold the first 50 tickets without any social media advertising nor any marketing at classes yet and we have now a further 100 tickets. Chromefest Sockhop SOLD OUT!!!!!!
We will be announcing and advertising our Chromefest Sockhop in the next couple of weeks.  We are excited for the double header that we have in store for you. Interstate
Melbourne band Itchy Fingers and local band Mescalero.  The event will be held at
The Entrance Leagues Club with limited seating of 200. We do encourage you to purchase your tickets early this year as this event was sold out within 6 weeks last year.
Take advantage of the early bird tickets and book now. Tickets online $27.50
includes processing fee.
Please choose carefully there are NO REFUNDS.  Tickets are transferrable.
